Blood in the Sandstone.
A Collection of Utah Horror.
Utah hides its horrors well.
Beyond the postcard landscapes and towering red cliffs lie abandoned mining towns, forgotten highways, ancient canyons, lonely deserts, and secrets buried deep beneath the sandstone. In these isolated places, legends refuse to die, faith can become terrifying, and some places are better left unexplored.
Blood in the Sandstone is a collection of horror stories from Utah writers, each exploring a darker side of the Beehive State. Within these pages, supernatural terrors haunt the landscape, psychological horrors take root, monsters lurk in the desert, and Utah's history, folklore, and culture become the foundation for nightmares.
From remote stretches of wilderness to communities where something isn't quite right, these stories transform the beauty and isolation of the American West into something sinister.
Whether you've traveled Utah's backroads, stood beneath its towering red cliffs, or only admired its breathtaking landscapes from afar, Blood in the Sandstone will make you wonder what might be waiting beyond the next ridge.
Because once the desert knows your name, it never lets you go.
My story for this collection is called THE DUNE — An archeologist discovers the find of a lifetime in the dunes of Southern Utah. Hurrying to unearth a skeleton he finds himself the victim of some unknown force as the dune itself, by ancient spirit, by living insect, or otherworldly malice–we are never sure–consumes him.
Local Utah settings, local history, eldritch mystery. Time in the desert. Gotta love it.
A first trip with this publsiher. I'll update the links when a paperback is offered.
